Flavor Friday - A Tad Bit Late

This Flavor Friday is a tad bit late but I thought Sara's cupcakes were way too interesting to pass up. I forgot my camera Friday (so phone pictures will have to suffice). Unfortunately, my opening shift turned into a double so by the time I got home, posting was the last thing on my mind. When I sat down to post last night, I checked facebook and my phone and was completely overwhelmed by news from my sorority sister. Please be praying for Alyssa P. She lost her sweet 5 month old, Kensie Marie, yesterday afternoon. Kensie died in her sleep. My heart was just aching for her last night so the post was postponed yet again.

Here they are Flavor Friday Cupcakes from 8/26/11.

Tomato Basil
It is a spiced tomato cupcake with an heirloom tomato, honey sauce and a chocolate truffle covered in pine nuts and Parmesan. I told Sara it looked like spaghetti and meatballs to me. HA
Kiddie Kompost
A chocolate, M&M and goldfish cupcake with a chocolate buttercream. It is, of course, garnished in M&Ms and goldfish. The after school crowd went nuts over this cupcake!
My Big Fat Greek Cupcake
A cinnamon cupcake soaked in a honey, cinnamon syrup, a touch of buttercream to hold on the beautiful garnish. Sara crafted a delicious baked phyllo shell filled with a homemade nut mixture with the honey, cinnamon syrup drizzled on top. Yum!
Funky Monkey
A chocolate, banana cupcake with peanut butter buttercream, topped with peanuts and a chocolate ganache drizzle.
The pictures are my own(pitiful iPhone quality that they are). However, I do not create, bake or decorate the cupcakes. All creative genius belongs to SMH. My job is simply to run the store front and share the yumminess. :-)

My "New" Little Home Sweet Home

In May I moved into my little Midtown Manor. HA. It is a little 1 bedroom duplex. It is old and has a lot of character. I haven't even finished organizing everything or making it homey. It's definitely a work in progress but I will post pictures as I go. There are hardwood flooring throughout with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom.

The Living Room
The Dining Room
It is tiny. Which is the understatement of the year. See that dinosaur of an air conditioner? Well, it only works on high and it is super duper old with no energy efficiency. Which would explain my $201.66 power bill for June... Absolutely ridiculous. Needless to say, Big Bertha stays off the majority of the time.
The kitchen is small but I love the built-in cabinet to the right. The washing maching goes on the other side of the fridge. Through the doorway in the back there is the hot water heater and dryer. It provides some room for storage but I am still working on trying to maximize the space to its potential. To the right, the wood "counter top" you see if the only counter top space I have. The sink is a single farmhouse style sink.
The hall closet is large and provides some much needed storage.
My bathroom is small. Somehow I did not manage to take any pictures of the shower but that will have to come later. Because the house is old there is no counter top space and the only cabinet space is there on the right(see the door?)I am really not sure what I was thinking when I took the pictures of the bedroom. There are 4 windows, the 2 there facing the backyard and 2 on the right hand side. It is a moderate sized bedroom so maneuvering my furniture into it was interesting but has been accomplished.

This is the bedroom closet. Thank goodness for the large hall closet. Could you imagine any female trying to fit her hanging clothes into this lil thing? ;-)Here is the backyard. Coach LOVES having a backyard after being in an apartment. It is large and shaded. Only down side is that I share it with my neighbor.
Well, welcome to my humble abode. It is old and it has some issues but it is mine. I am on my own and can afford to live by myself which feels like a major accomplishment after this past year. I finally have a space of my own, a peace of mind and feel like things are coming together.

Flavor Friday 8/12/11

Welcome to my first ever Flavor Friday!
At the dessert bar where I work, we bring out new flavors every Friday. We typically have 3-4 new cupcakes and rotate them out. We have 7-8 standard flavors that we always have on hand, which I will introduce in different posts.
Sara, our baker and manager, is a genius. Honestly. She has no problem busting out new flavors every week.
The flavors this week:
Frito
The Frito cupcake is a frito, pretzel and chocolate cupcake with peanut butter buttercream, garnished with a frito.School LunchThe School Lunch cupcake is a peanut butter cupcake, filled with grape jelly.
