Musings of an Old Soul

This image may very well be something I am clinging to right now. But my house will be in order soon. I cannot handle a dirty house. Until then, this will make me feel a tad bit better. haha

Anyone who knows me knows that I was born wrong time period. I love all things vintage and the style of music I listen to and movies I watch reflect my old soul. It makes me ridiculously giddy! I seriously wish I could design clothes and sew because my wardrobe would be 40s-60s feminine chic. No lie
.
If only I could pull off outfits like this...
I've spent entirely too long browsing Patterns from the Past looking for patterns.

I'm pretty sure that is enough picture overload. For now. But seriously, I want a wardrobe like this.
Ok, so maybe it needs a bit of modernizing but I love the overall feminine shapes and forms.
I kind of like the coats of the 60s better though. Yes, I know I am weird. I don't care if I look ridiculous. Atleast I will be classy, feminine and modest. I will make this happen. :-) In fact, I am going to be re-doing my 101 in 1001 goals and that might be one of them!

Blogger's New Interface & More

What better way to get back into the swing of blogging than to be thoroughly confused by Blogger's new interface? I love a challenge. ;-) I might like it and exploring everything. We shall see!

It has been a weird few days around here, schedule wise. My body and brain are not in sync with the actual days of the week. I had Sunday off(the first weekend day I have had off since Memorial day weekend), worked Monday, had Tuesday off, worked Wednesday and had Thursday off. So weird. I am "on a break" from my second job(as a caregiver). It was too much working 70-80 hours a week, mixing working full-time during the day and 2-3 overnight shifts. My body and brain hated me for it. :-) Though it was nice to not have to worry about things financially, it added too many other problems. Thankfully, I got a small raise and a promotion with YDB. I am now a manager. The raise won't make up for the money I made from having a second job but it's better than nothing! And I think I might enjoy only having one job. I can actually get my house under control and have a life. Whatever that means. HA!

I am considering re-doing my 101 in 1001 goals. So much has changed since I originally did it and it pretty much got shoved to the back burner. But I love lists and I think goals are good. So I might give it another go. I am open to thoughts and suggestions for goals or categories for goals.

Flavor Friday - A Tad Bit Late

This Flavor Friday is a tad bit late but I thought Sara's cupcakes were way too interesting to pass up. I forgot my camera Friday (so phone pictures will have to suffice). Unfortunately, my opening shift turned into a double so by the time I got home, posting was the last thing on my mind. When I sat down to post last night, I checked facebook and my phone and was completely overwhelmed by news from my sorority sister. Please be praying for Alyssa P. She lost her sweet 5 month old, Kensie Marie, yesterday afternoon. Kensie died in her sleep. My heart was just aching for her last night so the post was postponed yet again.

Here they are Flavor Friday Cupcakes from 8/26/11.

Tomato Basil
It is a spiced tomato cupcake with an heirloom tomato, honey sauce and a chocolate truffle covered in pine nuts and Parmesan. I told Sara it looked like spaghetti and meatballs to me. HA
Kiddie Kompost
A chocolate, M&M and goldfish cupcake with a chocolate buttercream. It is, of course, garnished in M&Ms and goldfish. The after school crowd went nuts over this cupcake!
My Big Fat Greek Cupcake
A cinnamon cupcake soaked in a honey, cinnamon syrup, a touch of buttercream to hold on the beautiful garnish. Sara crafted a delicious baked phyllo shell filled with a homemade nut mixture with the honey, cinnamon syrup drizzled on top. Yum!
Funky Monkey
A chocolate, banana cupcake with peanut butter buttercream, topped with peanuts and a chocolate ganache drizzle.
The pictures are my own(pitiful iPhone quality that they are). However, I do not create, bake or decorate the cupcakes. All creative genius belongs to SMH. My job is simply to run the store front and share the yumminess. :-)

My "New" Little Home Sweet Home

In May I moved into my little Midtown Manor. HA. It is a little 1 bedroom duplex. It is old and has a lot of character. I haven't even finished organizing everything or making it homey. It's definitely a work in progress but I will post pictures as I go. There are hardwood flooring throughout with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom.

The Living Room
The Dining Room
It is tiny. Which is the understatement of the year. See that dinosaur of an air conditioner? Well, it only works on high and it is super duper old with no energy efficiency. Which would explain my $201.66 power bill for June... Absolutely ridiculous. Needless to say, Big Bertha stays off the majority of the time.
The kitchen is small but I love the built-in cabinet to the right. The washing maching goes on the other side of the fridge. Through the doorway in the back there is the hot water heater and dryer. It provides some room for storage but I am still working on trying to maximize the space to its potential. To the right, the wood "counter top" you see if the only counter top space I have. The sink is a single farmhouse style sink.
The hall closet is large and provides some much needed storage.
My bathroom is small. Somehow I did not manage to take any pictures of the shower but that will have to come later. Because the house is old there is no counter top space and the only cabinet space is there on the right(see the door?)I am really not sure what I was thinking when I took the pictures of the bedroom. There are 4 windows, the 2 there facing the backyard and 2 on the right hand side. It is a moderate sized bedroom so maneuvering my furniture into it was interesting but has been accomplished.

This is the bedroom closet. Thank goodness for the large hall closet. Could you imagine any female trying to fit her hanging clothes into this lil thing? ;-)Here is the backyard. Coach LOVES having a backyard after being in an apartment. It is large and shaded. Only down side is that I share it with my neighbor.
Well, welcome to my humble abode. It is old and it has some issues but it is mine. I am on my own and can afford to live by myself which feels like a major accomplishment after this past year. I finally have a space of my own, a peace of mind and feel like things are coming together.

Flavor Friday 8/12/11

Welcome to my first ever Flavor Friday!
At the dessert bar where I work, we bring out new flavors every Friday. We typically have 3-4 new cupcakes and rotate them out. We have 7-8 standard flavors that we always have on hand, which I will introduce in different posts.
Sara, our baker and manager, is a genius. Honestly. She has no problem busting out new flavors every week.
The flavors this week:
Frito
The Frito cupcake is a frito, pretzel and chocolate cupcake with peanut butter buttercream, garnished with a frito.School LunchThe School Lunch cupcake is a peanut butter cupcake, filled with grape jelly. It has a vanilla butter cream and is topped with a large homemade chocolate chip cookie.Carrot, Cardamom, & CashewCarrot, Cardamom & Cashew cupcake with a bourbon, cardamom cream cheese icing.
Chocolate Milk
Nestle Nesquick flavored cake and Nesquick butter cream. The pictures are my own. However, I do not create, bake or decorate the cupcakes. My job is simply to run the store front and share the yumminess. :-)

Nemo the Cat

I'd like to introduce you to my new baby! He went by nameless or no name for the first 24 hours or so which then led to him being called Nemo (Latin for no name)... and it stuck.

I adopted this precious kitten last Tuesday. He and 4 other kittens had been abandoned. An elderly couple that worked with ARF here in Mobile were fostering them. Isn't he adorable? He has the most beautiful blue eyes.

He is well behaved and litter trained. And he apparently likes dog food too.

Coach and Nemo are still in the "feeling each other out" stage but I am hoping they will soon be getting along famously.
Nemo seems to have this hilarious power over Coach. I honestly don't think Coach is scared of Nemo. I think it is more that Coach is scared of getting in trouble if he doesn't get along with Nemo because he always looks up at me when they are playing as if to make sure I approve.
Tonight, Nemo trapped Coach in his kennel. Coach didn't seem to mind it to much because it meant he got his peanut butter treat to himself and didn't have to share it like his puppy food!

Nemo is enthralled by Disney movies. Yup, Puuurfect snuggle buddy. ;-)
